SUMMARY:Global Day of Prayer
DESCRIPTION:\n\nThe Global Day of Prayer (GDP) ( https://mcusa.org/news/global-day-of-prayer-may-20 ) is a large, coordinated prayer event that unites millions of Christians across the globe, typically held on Pentecost Sunday, to intercede for the world’s spiritual needs and transformation of nations. Originating in South Africa around the year 2000, it rapidly expanded to encompass all nations, fostering unity and spiritual awakening through organized prayer meetings, public events, and community gatherings. The event’s purpose is to seek God’s glory, bring blessing to the nations, and encourage a global “canopy of prayer” for spiritual, social, and global well-being.\n\n\nThe Global Day of Prayer is the largest coordinated prayer event in history. It was started in 2000 by a South African businessman in Johannesburg and quickly spread; firstly across the nation, then going globally. It currently mobilizes every nation on the earth, involving approximately 250 million believers in a coordinated world-wide prayer event on Pentecost each year.Christians all over the world have gathered on Pentecost Sunday for a day of repentance and prayer. From large-scale public events to small gatherings in churches and homes, people have united to worship God, seeking His face and interceding for the transformation of our cities and the nations. There has never been a time when the world was in a greater need of prayer. Christians are being persecuted all over the world. There are people who still need to hear the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Millions need to be set free from bondage to sin and addictions. That first Pentecost saw 3,000 added to the church in one day – from the 120 gathered for prayer to 3000 believers in one day – exponential growth. Neither language nor religious barriers could prevent the Holy Spirit from changing lives.Could we unite with other believers around the world in praying for a fresh out-pouring of the Holy Spirit globally that we might see an exponential growth of Christ followers? Could it be that as the Holy Spirit moves across the globe new churches would emerge because He opened the eyes of the spiritually blind?WayMakers has compiled a 10-day prayer guide leading up to the Global Day of Prayer on May 20. It is available in English and Spanish. Go to https://waymakers.org/pray/gdop/#guide ( https://waymakers.org/pray/gdop/#guide ). to download a copy. You are free to distribute as many copies as you wish. There is also a “Prayer for the World” that could be used in a public service.\n\n
